Gua Sha, an ancient therapy originating from Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), involves scraping a smooth-edged tool across the skin to promote circulation and alleviate pain. The technique is typically applied with firm, unidirectional strokes, often over lubricated skin, to target areas of stagnation or discomfort. The therapy is named for the marks left on the skin, known as "Sha," which appear as red or purple spots—a natural result of the therapy that is both temporary and therapeutic.

Historical Background

Dating back to ancient China, Gua Sha has been used for over 2,000 years as a means to treat a variety of ailments, from muscle pain to respiratory conditions. Early versions of Gua Sha were performed using stones or bones, but the modern practice employs tools made from jade, horn, or plastic. The therapy gained formal recognition in the Ming Dynasty (1368–1644) and has remained a cornerstone of TCM healing ever since.

Benefits of Gua Sha

  • Relieves Muscle Tension: Gua Sha helps to release tension in muscles, making it effective for conditions such as chronic pain or stiffness.

  • Promotes Blood Circulation: By stimulating blood flow, Gua Sha can improve overall circulation and enhance the body's healing capabilities.

  • Reduces Inflammation: The technique has been shown to reduce inflammation in affected areas, aiding in the relief of conditions like arthritis.

  • Boosts Immunity: Gua Sha is believed to enhance the body’s immune response, helping to ward off common illnesses like colds and flu.

  • Alleviates Stress: The rhythmic scraping motion helps to relax the nervous system, reducing stress and promoting a sense of calm.

Things to Be Aware of

While Gua Sha is generally safe for most individuals, it may cause temporary redness or bruising. It is important to consult with a licensed practitioner if you have sensitive skin, underlying medical conditions, or are pregnant. Always ensure that the practitioner is trained in the proper techniques to avoid any adverse effects.

We are open 7 days a week, from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM.

Cupping therapy is a healing treatment that uses suction cups placed on the skin to draw blood to the surface and stimulate circulation. The cups, typically made of glass, bamboo, or silicone, are placed on targeted areas of the body where pain or tension exists. Cupping can be performed using heat (fire cupping) or mechanical pumps (dry cupping), each offering unique therapeutic benefits.

Historical Background

Cupping has a long history in TCM, with its use documented in texts dating back to the Han Dynasty (206 BC – 220 AD). Its use spread across various cultures, including Ancient Greece and the Middle East, where it was employed to treat a wide range of conditions. Cupping has evolved over time, but it remains a vital part of traditional Chinese, Islamic, and Eastern European medicine.

Benefits of Cupping Therapy

  • Muscle Pain Relief: Cupping is especially effective for alleviating chronic muscle and joint pain, such as back pain, neck pain, and headaches.

  • Enhances Circulation: By improving blood flow, cupping encourages healing in injured or tense tissues and muscles.

  • Detoxifies the Body: Cupping stimulates the lymphatic system, helping to remove toxins from the body and improve overall health.

  • Supports Respiratory Health: Cupping has been shown to be effective for treating respiratory conditions such as asthma, bronchitis, and congestion.

  • Reduces Stress: The soothing effect of cupping can help reduce tension and stress, promoting a sense of relaxation and well-being.

Things to Be Aware of

While cupping therapy is generally safe, some individuals may experience mild soreness or temporary bruising. It is not recommended for individuals with certain skin conditions, such as eczema or varicose veins, or for those with a history of blood clotting disorders. Always seek advice from a qualified practitioner before undergoing cupping therapy to ensure it is right for you.

“OM” is traditionally pronounced “AUM” (Ah-oo-mm), a sacred sound in many Eastern spiritual traditions symbolizing peace, unity, and universal energy. While some may say “Ohm” in casual English, we honor the deeper meaning with the original pronunciation: AUM.

Tui Na (pronounced "twee-nah") is a traditional Chinese therapeutic massage that has been practiced for over 2,000 years. It combines acupressure, stretching, and rhythmic compression to stimulate the body’s energy flow (Qi) and support natural healing. Tui Na is often used to relieve muscle tension, improve circulation, and treat specific health conditions. Unlike Western massage, it may be performed with the client fully clothed and focuses on both relaxation and targeted therapeutic effects.
